![]() The JKD Concepts line, is known for it's attention to combative realities, and the tendancy to produce highly skilled combatants. What is often more difficult to understand is how the JKD Concepts methodologies work to acheive these goals. Many people get misdirected by the 'no way as way' principals, or the fact that we don't use a belt system or gradings to evaluate our students. Some students ask, "if we don't have these known structures, how will we achieve our goals?" I answer...If your goal is to become a black-belt, then it is very clear that you will go and get yourself a black-belt under some system that provides belts as rewards for demonstrating proficiency in a given set, form or kata. JKD Concepts as taught to me by Makoto Kabayama uses the most ancient of developmental tools for education and assessment, that is community. So if your goal is to become effective and competent with martial skills, then you need a community around you, with individuals who are pursuing the same goal. Now you are working through the curriculum, working with all of it's structured and refined content, but, constantly proving your skills under the inspection and testing of your peers and seniors. Rank in this system becomes a matter of standing in the group. As your competency increases so does your value to the group...this will be evident as juniors and peers begin to turn to you for advice.

![]() Jeet Kune Do Concepts and philosophies have generally only been available to a very specific group of practitioners often each member only being made aware of the schools by a direct referal from another student. The JKD Center while keeping true to it's roots, wishes to make the art and it myriad benefits available to the general public. As a result many different training options are to be made available this year. Currently we offer; JKD Concepts this is the hard-core JKD that teaches all ranges of combat and involves significant self direction from the student. This program prepares the student for sparring and guides them through their development as a fighter and student oif JKD philosophy. Womens Self defense This program operates to encourage fitness and self defense skills in a fun loving upbeat environment. We work and laugh pretty hard in these classes. Combat Components in response to the reality that the majority of the martial arts community wants a high degree of structure and acreditation, Shawn Zirger has broken down the skills and drills use to convey JKD Concepts and put them in a cirriculum that allows the student to persue a very precise and testable program that provides grading for each student. A student who completes the six levels of Combat Components will have all the nessecary basics required in the persuit of JKD Concepts training. This program will focus on fight conditioning, movement and striking as well as self defence. (this program is due to start in the spring of 2008...please contact Shawn if you are interested in being in the first group of Combat Components students.) JKD Kids Very much like Combat Components the focus of this program is fitness and self defense. Learning these skills develops confidence and disapline as co-ordination and physical self control develop as a result of the students efforts. (this new program will officially open in the Feb of 2008 running Mon Wed and Fri @ 4pm, limited space book now.) |
![]() Private Training Many students choose to spend time working directly with the instructors in order to develop their skills quickly, or to get a jump start on their general training. These sessions focus entirely on the individual and can be martial arts or conditioning oriented. Private instruction is scheduled and paid for in advance. |
